About Nathan
My name is Nathan Buchanan and I am running for Bexar County Sheriff in 2024. I am a lifelong resident of Bexar County and I am deeply rooted in the community and dedicated to its well-being. I am committed to leading with compassion, fairness, and a steadfast commitment to justice for all. My wife Jennifer and I got married in 2011 but have been sweethearts since we were teenagers. We are the proud parents of four children ranging from a newborn to 18 years old.
I have been a Texas peace officer since 2008 as well as a small business owner for over seventeen years. My wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to justice for all makes me the best candidate for the office of Bexar County Sheriff. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office demands exceptional leadership of the highest integrity and a deep understanding of the challenges and needs of our entire community. I possess those traits that my opponent is obviously lacking.
I will bring a very simple, "no nonsense" approach to curbing the rising crime rate. It is simply time to get back to the fundamentals of policing. Under my leadership the Sheriff’s Office will diligently work to ensure there is a full lineup of deputies patrolling your neighborhoods and protecting your personal property and businesses. Under a Buchanan administration the jail will be fully and properly staffed and we will stop the costly turnover of personnel that has plagued the Sheriff's Office for decades.
I recognize there is a low morale problem in the jail caused by the poor leadership of the current Sheriff and his administration which has been ignored for the last eight years. Deputies assigned to the jail have been forced (often under threat of termination) as much as 60-80 hours a week. This impacts the health and well-being of deputies and affects the citizenry of Bexar County due to excessive lawsuits filed against the Sheriff for mistakes made by tired or exhausted deputies working in the jail. These mistakes lead to costly litigation, paid out in YOUR taxpayer dollars. Under my administration every employee will be treated fairly as I will change the culture of the existing organization to one of dedicated service to the residents of Bexar County by the entire staff, sworn or civilian.
The Sheriff’s Office is the largest part of the Bexar County government, including an annual budget of over $150 million and roughly 2,000 employees. Effective leadership requires a person with sound management experience. I will utilize the skills learned in building a successful small business and bring them to the Sheriff’s office.
As your Bexar County Sheriff, my role would encompass a broad spectrum of responsibilities that requires a balanced approach to enforcement, community engagement, and resource management to effectively maintain public safety and uphold the law. Justice MUST be fair and equal for all! I am deeply committed to ensuring that every member of our community receives fair treatment under the law, regardless of background or circumstance.
