 There are a number of societal issues that plague our community. As Sheriff, I will address these issues. These are not difficult to remedy, but have gone unrecognized by the current Sheriff which happens to be bogged down in bureaucratic thinking. Success requires someone experienced in managing businesses.  Under my leadership, I will address and remedy the following: 

• Implementing innovative strategies to reduce the high crime rates and ensure the safety of all residents.  Violent crimes and property crimes are at an all time high in our county and we need to work together to reduce that number.  We want Bexar County to be known for its beautiful scenery and tourist attractions, not high crime.
• Tackle drug and sex trafficking to rid the streets of organized crime. 
• Ensuring the safety and security of our community is my top priority. I will implement data-driven strategies to reduce crime and enhance public safety, focusing on proactive measures and community engagement to address the root causes of criminal activity.
• Ensure that patrol districts are properly staffed and calls are answered in a timely manner rather than waiting hours to get much needed help from your law enforcement, when minutes count.  
• Collaborate with community members to work together and strengthen the strained relationship between law enforcement and the community through proactive engagement and mutual respect.
• Allow the Patrol Deputies to work without the fear of being fired or getting in trouble for doing their job.  Our Deputies deserve the best training, resources, and support to do their jobs effectively and safely. I will prioritize officer well-being, ongoing professional development, and ensure they have the proper tools they need to protect our community.     
• Embracing modern technology can significantly enhance our law enforcement capabilities. I will implement advanced tools and data analytics to improve our response times, solve crimes more efficiently, and deploy resources where they are most needed.

• Address Domestic Violence by providing support and protection for victims of domestic violence, and enforcing laws related to domestic abuse.
• Make victims of abuse feel safe when they reach out to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office to report the abuse.
• Protecting children by working with the proper authorities and programs to ensure the safety and welfare of children in the community.

• Reduce the out of control spending of your hard earned tax dollars which pays the overwhelming amount of overtime that Detention Officers are forced to work leaving them with little rest and many health issues.
• Since the current Sheriff has taken office in 2017, the amount of money spent on overtime in the jail alone has surpassed over $69 million of your tax dollars and that does not include expenses so far in 2024!
• Create a positive work environment and work on raising the low morale so deputies can work without the fear of being fired and will enjoy coming to work, and serving their community.  They need to know that they have the backing from the Sheriff and are appreciated every day for the difficult jobs they do. This directly influences that the highest quality of individuals will be recruited and retained (I will not hire someone less than qualified, just to fill a shift in the work schedule). 
• Address the rising number of inmate deaths occurring inside the Bexar County Jail.  These deaths are preventable.
• Managing our county jail with efficiency and humanity is crucial. I will ensure that our jails are safe and secure.  I will take measures to make sure inmates do not bring weapons (especially firearms) or drugs into the facility.  I will provide programs aimed at rehabilitation and reducing recidivism. This includes mental health services, substance abuse treatment, MANY faith based programs (which includes more access to chaplains/pastors) and educational opportunities for inmates.     
• Implement strategies for individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis which is a major issue that the current Sheriff has failed to properly address.

• Building trust by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with community members to foster trust and cooperation.  By building strong, positive relationships between law enforcement, community members and all stakeholders, we can work together to solve problems and create a safer environment for everyone. I am committed to being accessible and responsive to the needs of our residents.
• Community Outreach - Implementing programs that engage residents, such as neighborhood watch programs, town hall meetings, and youth initiatives.
• Transparency by ensuring open communication with the public about law enforcement activities and policies.
• Actually listening to your problems and implementing real world solutions to fix them.

• Properly manage the department's budget to ensure efficient use of resources.
• Recruit, train and retain qualified personnel which will benefit you, the taxpayer.  By recruiting and retaining deputies, we can begin to do away with the forced overtime and reduce the heavy financial burden to taxpayers.
• Ensure that officers have the necessary tools and technology to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.  Currently, deputies do not have some of the basic tools they need to effectively perform their duties.  

• Ethical Conduct: Upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability within the Sheriff’s Department.
• Protecting the civil rights of all individuals and addressing any instances of misconduct or abuse of power.
• As sheriff, I will foster a culture of transparency and accountability within the Sheriff’s office. This means open and honest communication with the public to keep you informed about your Sheriff’s Office, and a commitment to addressing any instances of police misconduct swiftly and fairly.

• Properly address the needs of individuals with mental health issues, including crisis intervention and collaborate with mental health professionals.
• Make sure deputies are properly trained to spot the difference and know how to deal with someone when they are suffering from a mental health crisis.

• Cybercrime:  Addressing crimes involving the internet and technology, such as Online Solicitation of Minor Children, Sex Crimes, Identity Theft, Online Fraud and Cyberbullying.
• We will utilize advanced technologies, including data analytics, body-worn cameras, and crime mapping to enhance law enforcement capabilities.

• In times of disaster and emergency, a well-prepared law enforcement response is critical. I will ensure your Sheriff’s Office is fully equipped and trained to handle any crisis, working collaboratively with other emergency services to protect our community.

•  Investing in our youth is investing in our future.  I will support and expand youth engagement programs, offering mentorship, education, and positive activities to keep our young people on the right path and away from crime.

• Collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies is essential for effective law enforcement.  I will build strong partnerships to address cross-jurisdictional issues and enhance our collective ability to keep our community safe.
